Which New Zealand Distilleries Have Cellar Doors?
This is a general framework, not verified, current specifics — confirm details directly with the relevant distillery or authority before relying on them.
39 of the 107 distilleries in our directory list a cellar door — concentrated most heavily in Auckland and Otago, with smaller clusters in Canterbury and Wellington.
Based on the Distil-Nation NZ directory at time of writing. Always confirm current opening hours and access directly with the distillery.
39 of the 107 distilleries in our directory currently list a cellar door or dedicated visitor centre. The heaviest concentrations by region are:
- Otago — 8 of 12 regional distilleries list a cellar door or tours, the highest proportion of any region in our directory (though see our Dunedin guide for an important caveat: "Otago" spans Dunedin, Wānaka, Central Otago and the Waitaki Valley, not just Dunedin city).
- Auckland — 9 of 29 regional distilleries.
- Canterbury — 5 of 14 regional distilleries.
- Wellington — 3 of 7 regional distilleries.
Why this matters for planning a visit
A large number of New Zealand's smaller craft distilleries operate on a production-focused or "by appointment" basis without a fixed public cellar door — so it's worth checking a specific producer's status before planning a visit around them, rather than assuming every distillery has a walk-in tasting room.
